"Where can I get hardcover books?"
Ask Laura:
I'm not sure how much mail of a similar nature you receive, so I'll be brief. I'm in the process of tracking down hardcover copies of the The Marketplace series to present to my girlfriend for her birthday this year. While she already owns the series in paperback, she's expressed an interest in owning hardcover versions as well (she's a bit of a fan). Obtaining hardcover copies doesn't appear as though it will be that daunting of a task, but I'd like to add a little something to the gift. I'd like to have you to personally autograph the set. I, of course, would be more than willing to cover the cost of shipping the set to you, as well as the return shipping, and whatever fee you may charge, if any - I don't want to presume, for autographing them.
Thank you for your time,
Jon
Dear Jon:
Thank you for supporting your girlfriend's book obsession! I heartily support that fetish, particularly around my books.
Here's my policy on book-signing: I prefer to sign books in person, at one of my scheduled appearances - although if I'm walking down the street and you happen to have a book of mine with you, I can be talked into it right then and there, too! While there are some exceptions to this rule for me (if you're asking me to contribute a book to a fundraising event, for example), but I only do that for Mystic Rose editions of my books. Plainly put, it's because I consider the hardcover books stolen goods. My previous publisher sold the rights to those editions without my permission and I don't see a penny of it.
What I have done, and am always willing to do, is sign bookplates and labels for people who mail them to me. Not only is it cheaper all around, but I don't have to shlepp the books to the post office afterwards - I can just stick the envelope back in the mail.
Autographed and first edition books are now available on this website by clicking the Buy Books link to the left or by clicking here.
Happy shopping, all you booklovers, and lovers of booklovers!
