Roman Blood, by Steven Saylor.
I love Steven's writings, both mainstream and pornographic. This mystery series features Gordianus the Finder, a man hired by senators and attorneys in Republican Rome to do the dirty work of looking into unsavory crimes. Immersing us into the time and place, I return to these books again and again.

The Ritual Bath, by Faye Kellerman.
The first of Faye Kellerman's mysteries featuring detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus, an orthodox Jewish woman. Over the series, their relationship
deepens, giving a wonderful look into a religious community while giving a great read to mystery fans. More by Faye |

The Gumshoe, the Witch and the Virtual Corpse, by Keith Hartman.
I picked this up at GAYLAXICON, the queer sci-fi and fantasy convention,
because I loved the title. The first novel creates a future world where America is broken into religious compounds that make solving an unusual mystery even
more difficult for detective Drew Parker. I'm glad to say he's continuing to write! More by Keith Hartman |

When the Bough Breaks, by Jonathan Kellerman.
Jonathan's style, distinctly different than his wife's, features child psychologist Alex Delaware helping with often-gruesome murders - moreso because of the inclusion of children as victims, or as witnesses. Alex frequently works with Milo Sturgis, one of my favorite gay detectives in fiction. More by Jonathan Kellerman
