Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey
An alternative, Renaissance-esque world where the lead character, Phedre, a "whore's unwanted get" is sold into indentured servitude in opulent Night Court. She serves two demi-gods - Naamah, for love; and Kushiel, for sado-masochistic pain... and much, much more. I enjoyed the series very much: the writing is solid and Carey's attention to the details that make her world so real are worth it.
